What is Askyoo and how does it work?
Askyoo is a community-based platform made up of regular, real-life folks like us! We aim to provide you with a quick and easy way to give and receive relevant information on just about anything – and a much more useful alternative than spending precious minutes or hours googling for what might not be the answer you are searching for.
Whether it’s knowing where to find the best prawn mee in Joo Chiat, how to get the Japan rail passes you need without having to navigate the convoluted fine print or whether Wolverine is still showing at the cinema today, someone out there knows the answer.
Available on your browser, iOS and android, Askyoo is designed to provide a fun, secure and efficient way for a community of users to tap on one another’s know-how and experiences for help while on the go.
How do I get started?
Download and install the Askyoo app from the App Store or Google Play, which will guide you through the sign-up process. You’ll be all set in just minutes!
What are the ground rules?
- Participate! Askyoo is a platform that works best with a community of active users who are willing to share what they know and believe in the value of collective knowledge.
- Ask nicely. no one owes you anything, and because we all like to be treated nicely, don’t we?
- If you’re not going to help, don’t give nonsensical answers, because we are all here to help, and not irritate, each other
- Respect fellow users, without exception. Avoid anything that could harass, abuse, insult, harm, defame, slander, disparage, intimidate or discriminate against others in any way.
- Be an honest human being. Avoid carrying out unlawful, immoral, unethical activities, providing false or misleading information, or soliciting others to do the same.
- Do not abuse the system. No spamming, phishing or any activities that would interfere with or circumvent the security features of the platform. Be constructive, not destructive!
What is the penalty for those who abuse or spam the system or other users?
For first-time offenders, the user account will be temporarily suspended and access to the platform will be denied. If the offensive behaviour is repeated or persists, the particular user will be permanently banned from Askyoo.
We are also circumventing spamming by not allowing 2 people to continuously ask and answer each other’s questions within a 15-minute period.
What kind of topics can I ask about?
Within the ground rules, you can ask any question on any subject from the everyday to the deeply philosophical – from traffic jams and movie timings, household cleaning tips to whether you should take that mid-career sabbatical.
Remember, only people who are interested in the same topic categories as what you’ve selected during registration can see your questions. You can also change categories at any time in your settings.
How do I know if the information I get is correct or accurate?
At Askyoo, we aim to build an open and trusted community of users who collectively benefit by sharing and exchanging useful information.
Furthermore, answers submitted are verified by the community – that includes you – for accuracy and relevance. In addition, users who contribute verified answers are accorded points and the higher the points, the greater the individual’s credibility as a source of reliable information.
How do I get help with using the app?
You can contact us by dropping us a line on our feedback page, and we will get in touch with you within a day.
How do I earn points and what are the different levels of expertise?
Users get a point for every question answered and verified as accurate. Once a specified number of points is accumulated, a user can “level up” and increase their credibility within the Askyoo community. Think of it as the ISO standard for Askyoo, a kind of street cred that can only be earned, not given.
- 0 to 20 points = Amoeba
- 21 to 80 points = Rookie
- 81 to 180 points = Savvy
- 181 to 280 points = Champion
- Above 280 points = YooGuru
What can I use the points for?
We are working very hard on this, and hoping to get awesome rewards out to folks who go out of their way to help others. Stay tuned!
Can I have multiple accounts?
You may sign up for more than one user account but each user account requires a unique phone number. You may NOT have multiple accounts under the same phone number.
Can I log in from multiple devices?
You can log in from multiple devices at any time but you cannot log into the same account simultaneously from more than one device.
Is Askyoo secure?
We place a great deal of importance on privacy – especially yours – and will not disclose users’ personal or location information to any third parties. Location information is obtained purely for the purpose of facilitating faster and more relevant answers from users near you.
